| i went to the ww2 in hyde park for memorial day and took abunch of pics on mostly weapons. The first 3 pages are new stuff and the rest is from last year. Unfortunatley they didnt have an stg44 this year =( was looking forward 2 one. But this year they had a stand where u could hold and look at any gun they had lol. I felt like a kid in heaven. On a random note there were a couple things that suprised me. The arisaka is extremley light for a rifle of that size, and the thompson m1928 is heavy as shit. I could barley keep it up straight. Its almost as heavy as the BAR.

| i went a civil war convention at antetium battlefeild..i think i mispelled it lmfao anyway and they let us shoot the cannons and shit.it was pretty awsome adn about 2 yrs ago i went camping in a place called greenbrier state park and they told us shit load of stories about the bloddy mist and they showed us where some of the places of the civil war took place...it was FUCKIN AWSOME!!!! but non of those trips had shit on the trip i took to gettysburg.....just being there....it was fucking amazing its like....u get to see this one section of the town that is stil standing and it has this one building where one side of it had 300 bullet holes and one itty bitty window in the attic at the very top where a woman and her child where hiding and those 300 bullets where ment for her..but she survived coz apparently the dudes had shitty aim lol but it was awsoem...u ca see the stadium next to the graveyard...i am refering to the staduim which was used in the film remember the titans...epic movie for all us american football fans and our tour was at night and the tourguide showed us all this kick ass buildings that were scools and once the war started so many people died after the battle at gettysburg so they turned all these postal buildings and schools into hospitols nd u can see blood stines in the wooden floors and u can see hospitols beds without the matresses and it was awsome..and the thing that i thought was coolist about the hospitols in gettysburg is that..even before president lincholn gave the gettysburg address the hospitols treated both the Union and the confedericy.......which is fuckin awsome and nice xD because nealry all the hospitols only treated the side they were on.....lol anyway dont get me wrong.....WW2 is an amazing war to study..and i am extremely interested in it...but i really liek studying about the Civil war because....i have lived up north and down south and i always go to the different battle feilds and meet people whos family memebres where involved and ask them what there opinion on the war was..and the stories you hear are completey diff..and once i had a woman tell me of her grandads ghost or somethign anyway after wards she said if u were alive back then would u have been union or confedericy.......i replied with i would want to be a nurse in a hospitol like the one in gettysburg that helped both sides....because as facinating as war is..it is also very tragic and sadand if given a choice i would be neutral. wow ok this post was long and all i done is rant lol so i am finished now xD heheh | |

| Cool pics Alex. I love history. I read Alex Beevor's D-Day recently. It's such a well written book. Forget all the stupid Hollywood movies, when you read the book, you get a real sense of what it must have been like to be there. Movies don't mention stuff like how some allied paratroopers hunted down Germans after they landed, cut off their balls and shoved them in their mouths and started to enjoy killing for the fun of it or how many of the soldiers being flown in for the first wave of paratroop drops were throwing up\shitting themselves (literally) in the planes as they came under fire in the air. What always bugs me is that films don't really show what war does to people. To the very few, war brings out the best of humanity, but to most it just brings out the sickest, most animalistic side of what it can mean to be human. I can't recommend that book strongly enough if you have a real interest in WW2. There is alot of bad stuff but there's some really touching accounts of what happened too. | |

| It's not all like that you retard. I was demonstrating a point about how movies glamourize war. Personally I prefer to understand stuff than be ignorant but each to their own.

There is alot of bad stuff but there's some really touching accounts of what happened too. I want that book badly and normally i hate reading. Only books i read are ww2 history books or books i have to read for school. Another good, but ficticous book about the final days of the 3rd reich is called the master sniper. Its about a waffen ss soldier armed with an stg44 sniper with vampyr night vision who has to take out high profile targets before the war ends. I never found this book anywhere but i would love to get it.

| WW2 is really fascinating indeed. The tactic, the plans, the battles and such. But as you say, stg44 sniper... nice I love WW2 weapons (some) as much as I love MW weapons. Like: PTRS=Barrett 50.cal STG44=M4 Carbine (almost, even tho STG is half automatic) (I think AK47 is closer) PPSh=P90 (almost) Kar98k=Intervention This is what I compare (I guess much of it is wrong, but I can live with it) | |

This is what I compare (I guess much of it is wrong, but I can live with it) here is the stg44 vampyr which is used in the book if ur intrested: IMO my weapon comparison list goes like this: PTRS = .577 trex stg44 = ak47 ppsh = pp19 bizon kar98k = r700

| well the ptrs bullet is huge as well. it was designed as an anti tank rifle although cod made it a sniper. The thing was 2 heavy to pick up and aim, it was close to 44 pounds i think. | |

The PTRS is heavy, I know. the trex can be shot out of a few rifles. The guns themselves dont look that big and arent that heavy, but the recoil and raw power is massive, making it similar to the ptrs.

| Aha... But wouldn't the snipers have to prone? If standing they can risk. to break the shoulder? How powerful is the recoil? | |
